Abstract

|
In the past, the hormone replacement therapy (HRT) had been recommended to all postmenopausal women who are not contraindicated for the sake of prevention of cardiovascular diseases, however this announcement of hormonal therapy was completely altered after Woman¡¯s Health Initiative (WHI) study. According to WHI study, HRT is effective in prevention of osteoporotic fractures and colon cancer, whereas ineffective in cardiovascular diseases, stroke and thromboembolism, and estrogen/progesterone combination therapy increases the risk of breast cancer. Recently, the use of HRT is limitedly focused to alleviate the symptoms of menopause. Nevertheless, further studies on HRT in healthy postmenopausal women would be essential.
